Anniversary-Wedding-portraits

Wednesday was our 3 year anniversary. I cannot believe Isaac and I have been married for 3 years already. Time flies by! We bought a new IMAC as an anniversary gift to each other. We need it so while I am processing a wedding, Isaac can be designing albums, or vice-versa. I am pumped about this one because we upgraded the ram to 4G and the hard drive to 750G. It is going to be a fast loading workhorse. Another anniversary gift to eachother was that we retook our wedding photos of the two of us. I got my dress out and got my hair, nails, and makeup done, while Isaac rented a tux. We had our good friend Meghan of Meghan Thomas Photography take the shots of us. My best friend Catherine did my hair, flowers, and came along for the entire shoot. I have such great friends! It was so much fun getting all dressed up. We went all over town taking photos for almost 2 hrs. It was so nice not being on a time schedule. I highly recommend doing this shortly after your wedding or even on your first anniversary so you can get some awesome shots with your new spouse! I have posted a few shots the Isaac took while I got ready, but I will let you all know once Meghan has the photos online!

It is so great the weather is getting better. We are in full swing of wedding season right now. Between the wedding last weekend, and 3 portrait sessions we are filled with work to do. I just bought Adobe Lightroom and an album design software so I have been busy figuring them out. Here are some samples from the 3 last photo opps we have done.

Nate & Tracey's E-session in Syracuse. Their wedding is June 28th.

Portrait session in Bville with 2 little girls.

Wedding of Amanda & Paul in Jordan/Skaneatles/Auburn on 5/24. I will write a longer post on their amazing wedding in a few days.

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial day. Remember to take some time to think about the men and women that have lost their lives fighting for our country. Without them we wouldn't be here.
On a different note: Last night Isaac and I went over to a friends house for a BBQ to be stuck in the house by cops. Things were wrapping up at about 10pm so we decided it would be a good idea for people to start heading home. As soon as 2 of our friends left the house they were ordered to get back in the house. There was a standoff at an apartment a few doors down from our friends house. We watched the whole thing from their bedroom window. At one point the guy had his shotgun pointed towards the window we were peeking through. It was rather scary. So i am tired from playing spy, but it will be something we will remember for a long time. Isaac had a great time watching. If he could be anything other than a photographer or a teacher he would be a SWAT man. Here is the news article

The best love is free

I saw this on another photographers blog. As many of you may know Isaac and I are Christians. We are in love with our lord Jesus and cannot wait to see what he has planned in our life. I encourage you to take 5 minutes out of your busy life to watch this video. It shows the daily struggle that we face every day between the world, Jesus, and us. All he wants is for us to let him love us yet we continue to walk away. His love is true, it is unwavering and unending. How awesome is that! Watching this was a great wake me up before a VERY long day of work.

Albums!

I love my albums. I have been branching out and ordering different covers and sizes for my flushmount albums for the studio. I hope you get a chance to see one of my albums sometime soon. If you haven't, you should come over and check them out. Albums are a great way to showcase your wedding photographs in a way that honors the amount of time and effort you put into planning your wedding. We also love making albums for our portrait sessions too. After every portrait shoot it is always so hard to choose a handful of your favorites from the entire session. There is no longer a need to choose one highlight image to hang on your wall. Now we are able to offer an album filled with all of your favorite shots for you to cherish the rest of your life. In addition to photos of my albums I stuck a photo of my most recent canvas. One of my portrait customers ordered a 16x16 gallery wrapped canvas from a portrait session this December with her 4 lovely children.
We already have 3 weddings for our 2009 season with signed contracts and 2 pending. If you are interested in meeting us for a wedding for 2009 please get in touch with us as soon as possible since we are only going to shoot 25 weddings in 2009.
Have a blessed day!

Trash the Dress

I bought a gorgeous wedding dress at a garage sale the other day. I met the owner of the dress and she was so cute! I bought it because I am looking for a model to do a trash the dress session with and figured it would be easier to find a model who wouldn't mind getting someone else's wedding dress dirty. If you think you will fit into a size 6 wedding dress and want to have awesome photos of yourself please let me know. For more information on what a trash the dress session is visit: http://trashthedress.com/
Also if you have a wedding dress that you don't mind getting dirty please let me know and I will do a free 1 or 2 hr photo shoot of you and your dress. This is a great time to get some amazing fashion like photos of your in your dress... Because are you really going to wear it again? Its better to have amazing photographs to look at than a sealed box. Here is a photo of the dress. I figured it would be easier to see if it was on someone... and lucky for me Isaac wanted me to try it on.

Below is one of my favorite shots from Krystal and Matt's wedding. I second shot this wedding with Meghan Thomas. It was so much fun being a second shooter for once. I got the chance to take some more artistic shots while Meghan shot the more formal shots

Email-Old Forge

I woke up this morning to find out that my Kainsphotogaphy email is working now. So feel free to send us messages at Jenna@kainsphotography.com or Isaac@Kainsphotography.com. Don't forget our weekly promotion that we are running right now. View the post below this one for details.
Isaac and I went away this weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We really wanted to make it out to Martha's Vineyard but we didn't have the time since Isaac doesn't get home from work until 4 on Fridays. We opted for one of our other favorite places... the Adirondacks. We wanted to go to Lake Placid but we were told the black flies were out in force, so we decided to stay in Old Forge. We stayed at this cute B&B called Haynes White House Inn. I always love staying at B&B's. We met so many great people including the owner Margaret, what a great hostess.
If you know us already you probably know that we are huge outdoor adventure people. This weekend we went to Mountainman's Paddlefest, climbed Bald Mountain, walked around Old Forge and Inlet taking photos and we went horse back riding! It was a great weekend. I cannot wait for the fun adventures we will have this summer. Enjoy!

After much anticipation the new and improved website is live! Take a look at our new digs. The portrait site still needs to be publish and updated, but the wedding site is pretty much complete! There may be some minor glitches in the next 72 hours as things switch over. Please let me know what you think! email me or leave a comment. In celebration of our new website and in anticipation of our 3 year milestone on June 15th we will be introducing a new promotion each Friday.

If you don't have it please email me and I will get you the user name and password. For all weddings go to www.collages.net the user name should be the groom's last name and the password will always be 13791.

backlogged...

I just called my website company asking why my website did not switch over yesterday and they told me they got backlogged yesterday. So it seems as if the big reveal is going to have to happen on their time. So we wait. In the meantime enjoy the last few hours of my current website. Have a great day!

tree is gone

First things first... My new website will be online tomorrow. I am just waiting on the domain to switch over. It may not be until later in the day, but keep your eyes peeled for our brand spankin new site. Also I am going to have some great promotions to celebrate my new website!

The tree is gone. It is sad, but now I can plant other trees there that won't get into our plumbing. I probably will continue down the fence with Lilac trees since there are already 3 closer to the house. It was cool watching the guys take the tree down. They had all of it done by 2pm. They haven't done the stump yet, I am hoping that gets taken care of soon! I actually got a lot of work done today. I bought Adobe Lightroom today. I have been meaning to buy it for months now. I was over at Meghan's (my photog friend) the other day and was looking around her version of Lightroom and I fell in love. It is a downloading, organizing, and quick edit program. I am hoping to cut my work-flow time in half. So instead of 5 days to process a wedding I want to get it done in 2-3 days! I'm pumped. Here are the photos from the tree. I think I was annoying the DPW because I kept going outside to check on the progress because I wanted to take photos!

Tree-yellowpages

We have a beautiful 80' white spruce tree in our front yard. This tree has probably been here as long as our house has been here. I love how it blocks the view of the school from our side yard. However this winter our pipes backed up because of tree roots and flooded our basement. The worst part about it was that this all happened on Christmas eve and we had to call a plumber to come in and fix it. We had our alderman put a letter into the DPW to have the tree taken down since it's roots are killing our plumbing. Today is D-day for that tree. The DPW rang my doorbell at 7:30 this morning to let me know they were going to working almost all day at getting the tree down. It is bittersweet, but for the sake of my pipes I cannot wait for it to be gone. Needless to say I think I am going to be out my office almost all day because I will not be able to get any work down with a chainsaw 30 ft from my office. I ran out, barefoot and all, early this morning to take some photos of the before... so here goes:

The view from my backyard looking towards the school on W 5th, nice a private now, not later!

The tree! Our house is 35ish fee tall, the tree is so much taller! See the one behind the house. We are cutting that one down also, it is in the middle of our yard and is getting into our mainline for the sewer.

so sad to see it go!

On a totally different note, we got our phone book for Oswego County this week and we are in the photographers section. We decided to try it out. All of our weddings so far come from word of mouth or finding us on the internet, but a lot of people don't know that we also shoot portraits. I don't know if I will do the yellow pages again since I haven't heard much positive response, but they gave me a deal that was too good to pass up.

Website launch Thursday

New Website to launch on THURSDAY!!!
If all goes well and my domain gets switched over as planned my new website will be up Thursday morning. I have taken a lot of time into picking the perfect photos, writing the best text, and choosing the best colors. There are some neat features such as an integrated shopping cart, an interactive calendar, and a contact form. The best thing is that I finally have music on my website. I got a little Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and Colbie Caillat. I wanted more but the website company only allows 2MB of music.
I have not had much time to do anything else lately other than shoot a wedding with my good friend Meghan Thomas of Meghan Thomas Photography on Saturday. It was so much fun working with Meghan! I wish we could do it more often. I will post some of the photos later today or early tomorrow. Here is a sneak peak at what my website will look like.

interesting stats

I can track what countries the visitors to my blog are from. In the last four days I have had 3 from Italy, 3 from Brazil, 2 from Canada, 1 from Spain and 1 from the UK. It is so cool to see that people from all around the world are checking up on my blog. Last week I had 2 from Iraq, that was unexpected to say the least!

Big news!

Spring is now here and this is when things start getting busy. Between portraits, weddings and meetings, I barely have enough time for anything else. Today I have been especially busy because I bought 4 domain names today!
I am launching my business into other states and I am also creating a new organization. Here is what I got. I am very excited!

1) PortraitsofLifeandLove.com
This is my new organization. We are a group of photographers that donate our time and skill to capturing lasting portraits for Hospice patients and their families. For more infomation about "Portraits of Life and Love" email Jenna@PortraitsofLifeandLove.com.
For more information about Hospice and Friends of Hospice visit www.Oswegohospice.org
I will keep you updated on what is going on. Here is the flyer I am handing out, click on it to make it bigger. I will be making brochures once I finish a couple portrait sessions.

2) JennaKain.com
Right now the website links directly to www.KainsPhotography.com. I am hoping to use this website for my out of state work and my destination weddings. I am currently launching my business in Martha's Vineyard. One of my favorite destinations ever. But for now it will remain just a link back to kainsphotography.com

3) OswegoPhotography.com
Another website I have always wanted to own! Just links back to Kainsphotography.com for now

4) OswegoWedding.com
It has been a dream of mine to host something like Syracuse Wedding for Oswego County. This will not be anything extremely fancy, but it will be enough to direct Oswego brides to who the wedding vendors are in Oswego County. If you are a wedding vendor and you are reading this keep your ears peeled for advertising opportunities. I really love the sense of community Oswego county can offer and I want to pool every single wedding vendor into one spot to keep that sense of community going.

Thats it for now! I joined a womens softball team and tonight is the first practice. I haven't played softball since 6th grade... I think... which was a long time ago. I am just happy to be outside and getting some exercise with my sisters! Ill have to drag Isaac to a game so he can take photos of how amazing I am out there in the outfield.
