On Saturday May 14th we had the honor of photographing Allie & Adam's fabulous Saratoga Springs wedding. It was such a wonderful day with every detail precisely thought out. Allie brought so many fun details to the wedding that were so unique and fun to photograph. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest, but it did stop raining so the fireworks could go off!
I have known Allie since I was in elementary school when we were on the same softball team together. I wish I could find our old team photo to post here. It would be quite embarrassing, but very funny. Adam is a perfect match for Allie. They are such a cute, caring, fun couple. Here are some of my favorites from their wedding day. Enjoy!

On May 14th Isaac and I had the honor of photographing one of my high school friend's wedding. Allie & Adam got married at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs, NY. Despite the weather it was an absolutely beautiful wedding with so many thoughtful details. Allie was breathtaking and Adam was such a suave, happy guy. I have known Allie since I was a little girl, so this was a special day for me! Enjoy their preview slide show while I edit the remaining photos. Congrats to both families.

Dan & Anne's Winter Engagement session

I met Dan back in 2003. We went to SUNY Oswego together and were part of the crew team; funny to think lil 'ol me on a crew team, but I did it! After graduation Dan moved back downstate and met his beloved, Anne. I can hardly remember Dan without Anne, they are just an awesome couple. One weekend in Vermont we met them up in Vermont for a winter engagement session early in the morning before a full day of skiing. We will be photographing their wedding in July in Washington D.C. We are very excited to have been chosen to be their wedding photographers and cannot wait to be down in DC with them this summer. Back in 2007 we met Nick and Nicole at a wedding Nicole was a bridesmaid in. Then in 2008 they tied the not at Fallbrook Lodge in Oswego, NY and we were lucky enough to be their wedding photographers. Here is a photo from their wedding back in July 2008.

Now, almost 3 years later, they are expecting their first child. Nicole is due TODAY!!! She called me 2 weeks ago wanting to do a maternity shoot, and how could I resist shooting one of my awesome wedding couples. Now I wouldn't recommend waiting until 39 weeks to do your maternity shoot. 34-36 weeks is a little better, but this seemed to work for Nicole as she looks fabulous!!!
We both decided it would be a great idea to revisit their wedding location for the photo shoot. I love being able to shoot at a meaningful place, this time we were able to go back to the place where their lives began as Mr. & Mrs. So when we planned to do the shoot we didn't know what the weather would be, but we sure did luck out. It was a brisk 35*f and with the sun, it was bearable to be outside for 45 minutes. I brought an old wooden sleigh and it was the perfect prop to keep their tushes off the cold snow.
Nick and Nicole have decided to be surprised if they are having a girl or a boy and I cannot be anymore excited to hear myself!!! Enjoy these photos as we await the birth of their beautiful baby!

Mary & Justin

Well it is safe to say our 2011 wedding season has begun. He already have 2 weddings under our belt for the year and have a few coming up here pretty quickly.

Let me just say that Mary & Justin's wedding was highly anticipated over here. We have known Mary & Justin for 1 1/2 years already. I shot their engagement session back in 2009! Many plans have come and gone for their wedding, and I must say, the final outcome was perfect! Last minute changes had Mary & Justin rushing to plan their dream wedding in March instead of the intended July date. Mary did a FANTASTIC job pulling everything together. The love shown between everyone attending their wedding was incredible. Mary & Justin are two peas in a pod, they are just so darn adorable!
Isaac and I had an incredible time being there with you two as you said "I DO". We were so happy and proud to be called your wedding photographers. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest, but I'm still planning on doing an "after the wedding" photo shoot with you two once the weather clears up. While organizing some files from 2010 I came across this photo I took of Isaac while we were setting up a shot at an August, 2010 wedding. We took the time to set the shot up perfectly so when we got the bride and groom we only had to pull them aside for a minute and we were able to get an amazing shot without them having to wait. That's why you hire professionals, we do the work for you, so you can party hardy.

I have used Scan Cafe to scan some negatives from our wedding, which happened to be shot mostly in film, as well as some small prints from my parents wedding and my childhood. Scan Cafe is a great resource in creating digital files out of old negatives and photos. Then you can turn around and create great enlargements and/or albums out of the newly digitized files. Liam at 5months with his cousin Linnea at 4months. These two precious babies are only 4 weeks apart. It has been such a blessing to go through this whole baby-birth-new mom adventure together.

I really have been taking photos of my baby. I take photos ALMOST everyday, but I end up using Facebook to post them since it is easily accessible. Here is a quick shot I took in the bath in June of Liam. I have a lot of great images to show. Once wedding season is over I will try to get you guys up to date on his photos! On Saturday August 7th Isaac and I got the chance to photograph Casey & Russell's wedding. The ceremony was at St. Mary's in Oswego (yup that is right we were there 2 nights in a row). We took photos at Breitbeck Park, Thornden Park, and McDonalds... Yup you read that right! Russell, loves McDonalds so on his wedding day he wanted to stop in to get some food, we ended leaving with 20 double cheeseburgers and 20 small fries... it only set us back 30 minutes (they are slow in McDonalds. But hey it was a great photo opp. After photos were taken we met up with the rest of the wedding guests at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse. It was a rocking night; the food was great, the deserts were awesome, and everyone there had a great time dancing the night away. Enjoy their slide show.

On Friday August 6th we had the privilege of photographing Christine and Greg's wedding in Oswego, NY. It was a gorgeous day; the weather was perfect, the couple was stunning, and the reception was a blast. The Billionaries Band kept the party going well into the night. The only snafu for the day was that the trolley broke down. Eveyone kept their cool and we managed to work around the situation. It will be a wedding to remember. What an amazing summer this has been. In July we were gone 18 out of the 31 days in the month. August is already turning out to be just as busy with 6 weddings and countless portraits, play dates, and summer fun.

Brian and Andrea got married on June 5th at the Lodge at Turning Stone Casino. It poured all day, but just when the guests were ready to sit down for the ceremony it stopped. The ceremony ended up being outside on the Great Lawn amidst the fresh rain. It was beautiful. Andrea was a stunning bride who had so much fun with the camera, and a dashing groom to the mix and together they make one fun-loving couple! Congrats you two!

Oh boy, my boy is 7 weeks old on Wed. March 17th. Time flies! As I near the end of my maternity leave I am getting more and more excited about this coming wedding season. We have now opened up another 10 wedding slots, including some prime dates in July. This season looks to be a fantastic one with a bunch of great brides, grooms, and locations. I cannot wait to start getting out there and shooting engagement sessions this spring.

The past 2 weeks have been wedding mayhem. On March 6th, my best friend, Meghan Thomas, got married to her high school sweetheart in Skaneateles. It was an amazing wedding with two wonderful people, I was honored to be one of the bridesmaids. Meghan did an unbelievable job planning the wedding, it was something out of "Platinum Weddings" or any other fancy wedding show.

This past weekend on March 13th, my sister-in-law Erin got hitched as well. Isaac was the best man and I was a bridesmaid. It was a crazy weekend the a lot of family and friends in town. All the while trying to take care of a 6 week old baby. To say I am tired would be an understatement. But I do LOVE weddings, and was so happy to be there for both Meghan and Erin.

Now that I am getting closer to wedding season I decided to take a look at my website, and boy does it need to be updated. Since the creation of my blog I have neglected my website. I always post new photos and fun ideas on my blog instead of updating my site. In the next month or so I am going to be redoing my website with updated photos, information, and giving it a fresh look! Keep an eye out for it.

As I sit here writing this, holding Liam sleeping in my left arm, I think about how much my life has changed in a matter of weeks. Isaac and I are so happy to announce the birth of our first child. My eyes might be heavy, but my heart is overflowing with joy as I stare at my sons face dreaming of who he will become and what kind of adventures our growing family will enjoy. These past two weeks have been the most fulfilling two weeks of my life as Isaac and I learn the ropes to parenthood. We have taken some time off from answering emails and phone calls as we adjust to our new life, so please be patient with us, we will get in touch with you shortly Enjoy these first set of photos, there will be more to come every month.

Maternity Photo Session

Back in October, Meghan Thomas, took some maternity portraits at Fallbrook of Isaac and I. Since then I have grown quite a belly and have wanted to get some studio portraits taken. With a week until the baby's due date I finally got the energy to have some studio maternity portraits taken. I really wanted some hi-contrast B&W, but was very pleased with how the colors came out as well. All of these photos were taken by my amazing husband Isaac. He did an amazing job posing me, lighting the composition, and making me feel pretty! It was so fun taking these portraits, I highly suggest everyone get some maternity portraits taken sometime during your pregnancy, I do not recommend the last week (like I did). Enjoy some of my favorites!

***ALSO This Sunday there is a bridal show at the American Foundry in Oswego. Isaac will be there showcasing some of our albums and new products. He will be there to answer any questions you may have about wedding photography. The time is from 12-3pm. Come find us!

Last 3 album designs of the 2009 season

I have worked day in and day out finishing album designs with the hope of having them all ordered before the new year and delivered by my due date. I made this goal back in July when I started thinking seriously about my maternity leave. I am so proud of myself for getting down to business, and at the busiest time of year, reaching my goal!!! Woo hoo! To view each album design click on one of the 3 covers. There are 3 different album designs to view. My goal was to go on maternity leave the first week in January, but I am feeling great still and I really want to finish everything for my WONDERFUL clients before I go on leave. I'll let you all know when I finally set a date to go on leave.

1 month until my due date

Wow time flies! 1 month until my due date. But I am estimating our baby boy will show up a few days late. I have been busy getting the nursery and house ready for a newborn as well as getting my business ready for my maternity leave. It is so exciting to see all the new services offered to photographers to help us manage our lives and schedules.
Today I would like to announce Kain's Photography now will have an online appointment scheduler available online. You will be able to go onto the website and see what I have available for the next month or so and then make and appointment to meet up with us. Whether you want to just stop by for a quick album pickup or if you would like to schedule a wedding consultation you can do it all through the online calendar. Albums Galore!

I have been quite busy with album designs lately! It has been so much fun dedicating most of my time to designing each and every album specifically for each couple. Christmas is 10 days away so I am busy busy trying to get as many orders to people as possible before the end of the week. I will be offically starting my maternity leave on Jan. 1st so I will be wrapping up as many things as possible before then. Of course you can always email me if you have any questions and I will try to respond to it. My due date is Jan. 22nd so with about 5 weeks left I have a lot to do to get ready for baby LIAM's arrival. Thank you all for being so patient!

2009 wedding season is over

This Saturday Isaac and I concluded our 2009 wedding season with Katie & Rob's wedding at St. Mary's and the American Foundry. This whole year we were thinking there was going to be snow on the ground for their wedding, so when we planned for snow and got 55* weather and no snow I was very excited! Every part of the day was planned perfectly, from the gorgeous Alfred Angelo dresses, to the speculator music during the ceremony, and also the amazing food/decorations at the reception. My pregnant belly was very happy after eating the amazing spread prepared for everyone. Kudos to Rob for helping the American Foundry create an exquisite menu!

Our 2009 wedding season was one of our best years yet. I will hopefully do a recap of the year later this week. We photographed 25 amazing weddings and got to meet hundreds of people. It will be a year to remember for sure, especially because I was pregnant nearly ALL of the wedding season. Tomorrow I will post my favorites from katie & Rob's wedding but because of the Thanksgiving break we are taking starting Tues. evening, the rest of the photos will not be available for another few weeks.

I had to have a few photos taken of me during the reception to capture my belly and I at 32 weeks pregnant and still shooting a wedding. I felt great all day, now Sunday was a different story!

I bought this shirt within a week of finding out I was pregnant for me to wear at this wedding. I haven't been big enough until now to fit into it, so I was so excited to finally wear it after months of looking at it hanging in my closet. This photo of Isaac and I was taken by DJ Brian Otto, who did a great job, this was at the end of our 8 hr day of standing so we were both sore and tired, but we don't look too shabby I think.

We have now passed the 2 months left mark. I cannot believe how quick this is going! My baby showers are coming up in a few weeks and then with Christmas, New Years, and possibly a bridal show in early Jan. we do not have much "prep" time before my due date on Jan 22nd.

Just a cool photo I came upon while editing our last October wedding. This was taken from outside looking in on some of the guests checking out our slideshow, that is why you get the reflection of the grass/lake/chairs in the glass. Our slideshows have become a huge hit at every wedding we photograph. We love being able to offer some of our favorite images for your family and friends to see. We don't bring a small laptop, like most photographers, we bring our large IMAC computer, quite an impressive setup. If the reception venue has LCD screens and a VGA input we can hook up to the screens, cool huh???!!!

Our last wedding for 2009 is this Saturday, I cannot wait to see Rob & Katie all dazzled up. It will also be our last wedding before the baby comes, 2 months until my due date as of Sunday. Also we will be out of the office from Wed-Sun of next week for Thanksgiving festivities. This will be our last time traveling to Saratoga Springs, my hometown, since when Christmas comes around I will be only a few weeks from my due date and will not be doing ANY traveling.

Kara & Paul's E-session

One of my most favorite engagement sessions to date, for many reasons. Including such a fun couple and great locations. We started out at Fallbrook and then after a quick outfit change we ventured on over to East Park and the Railroad tunnel. I love this location so much. I am hoping to get more couples and wedding parties out to East Park for their portraits. The tunnel gave me a Central Park vibe with the park benches, old fashioned street lights, and stone walls. All the leaves had fallen already but we still had great landscapes and backdrops to work with. Kara & Paul are getting married in August of 2010 out at Paul's parents house in the country. On October 17th, 2 weeks ago, we had the honor to photograph Jen & Jon's wedding out at Bayshore. This was our 11th and final Bayshore wedding of the year. We love shooting there so much, each and every wedding is unique! We especially love fall weddings at Bayshore, the fall colors are perfect, the pumpkins are an added touch, and the lake is a nice cool contrast to warm fall colors. Here are some of my favorites:

Jon & His twin, can you tell?

It was so cold out there, Jen being one of the most thoughtful brides I have ever met brought a trunk filled with blankets for all their guests to use during the outside ceremony. We took advantage of these brown blankets to wrap the bridesmaids up in while we took some shots down by the chilly lake.

Mary & Justin's E-session

Last week I met Mary & Justin for the first time out at Fallbrook. We met only an hour before the sun set completely, so we had only a short amount of time to shoot before there was no good light. I had such a blast photographing Mary & Justin, who are planning to have their wedding in 2011. They brought their awesome dog, Brody, with them. I managed to get some great shots even though Brody is probably the most hyper dog I have ever met. Enjoy my favorites! There are only a few good fall days left to take photos outside, so if you want a portrait session please call soon so I can schedule you in before the leaves fall. Of course I can always take photos after the leaves fall too, just this time of year people want the fall colors.

October is definitely the month of the year we do the most portraits. Even with scaling back I have managed to shoot 6 portraits in the last week. We are shooting Jen & Jason's wedding next summer. Isaac went out one bright Saturday morning to photograph these two for their engagement session, here are some of my favorites. Even though I wasn't able to make the shoot, I am so exited for their wedding by just looking at these photos. You can check out the rest on our portrait proofing page of the website.

Amy & Phil

Amy & Phil wanted a fall wedding and they sure got one. It was a beautiful day... 45*degrees and windy. When I say windy, I don't mean 5-10 mph winds, I mean closer to 30 mph winds. During the ceremony Isaac mentioned his long lense he was using (80-400mm) was being blow around with the high winds. Amy & Phil couldn't have handled the cold temps any better! They were all smiles, all day. We had such a great time being there for them as they start their new life together. Remember their engagement photos? Click here to view them. Isaac met up with the guys at the Econo Lodge before the ceremony. Aren't those clouds incredible!

What a gorgeous bride Amy was! This was what I like to call her "after smile", after taking a posed photo one always has an "after smile" which is a quick moment of a real and sincere smile. I LOVED her earrings!

Isaac captured this moment as Amy and her father were walking the long path down the aisle. At this moment Amy wasn't able to see Phil, her excitement was contagious!

We had the most amazing light! If it wasn't almost 40* we would have stayed out there longer, I love it when brides put flowers or hairpieces in their hair.

As the sun was setting the sky opposite the sunset turned this amazing blue. What a cool contrast to the warm glow on the girls.

This past Saturday Isaac and I had the privilege of photographing Caroline & Steve's wedding out at Bayshore Grove on Lake Ontario. We have 3 weddings this October, all of them out at Bayshore! I feel like we are becoming Bayshore experts with how much we shoot out there. The great thing is that each and every wedding is different so there is ALWAYS something new to take photos of.
Caroline grew up in Oswego and decided to return to her hometown to get married to Steve. It was a gorgeous day with a few downpours here and there. The bride was stunning, I loved her dress and laced veil. So classy. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

This was the first time we have seen this "fake snow" as they exited the church all the guests threw this snow on them. It is supposed to wash away with the rain. quite romantic and much cleaning than bird seed!

I will be posting more often now that the bulk of my wedding season is over. We still have 4 weddings to shoot with the last one being Nov 21st. I will be starting with weddings in late May and continuing through up until my October weddings. So keep checking up!

ALSO we have decided we will be shooting more weddings for next year for a total of 10 weddings. We will still be taking more time off than usual so we can enjoy our baby girl, but I have decided that I LOVE what I do and it will be no problem to shoot 10 weddings. So if you are interested in having us shoot your wedding give us a call sometime soon!

What a wedding season it has been. I am currently 25 wks pregnant and feeling great! I have posted a quick snapshot Isaac took the other day. Once I get bigger I am having professional maternity photos taken! Can't wait. But big news is on the horizon. One of my best friends is getting married March 6th and then the following weekend on March 13th, my sister in law is getting married. I am overjoyed with this news and can't be more excited for both couples.
Things are busy in the Kain household trying to close out the wedding season with 5 more weddings, planning for our baby on Jan. 22nd, and then two weddings 5 & 6 weeks after our baby is born. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

Vacation!

What a great summer it has been. We have been blessed to shoot almost 20 weddings so far this year. Isaac and I have met so many great couples, families, and guests! We will be taking a short vacation from August 23-30th and will return to the office on August 31st. Big News

So whats the big news you ask? Isaac and I will be expecting our first child at the beginning of 2010. I am currently 13 1/2 weeks pregnant and my due date is Jan 22,2010. We are so excited about this addition to our family! We could not be more blessed with the timing of it either. Since I will be due in Jan. this will not affect any 2009 weddings at all! Woohoo!!! I am just now departing from my first trimester and entering my second trimester and wow was the first trimester a trying time. So there is the reason why I have not been blogging lately, I have either been sleeping or being awfully sick if not working. I hope to be back blogging in the next few weeks on a regular basis.

We are very excited to be having a baby within 6 months of both of my sisters. My oldest sister Lauren just had a baby a few weeks ago and my second oldest sister Caitlin is due a short 4-5 weeks after I am. How exciting!

With this big news I must announce another big plan. With the addition to our family we have had to make some big decisions in the last few weeks. Over the past few weeks I have been struggling with what to do next year. I have been debating whether or not I want to work next year. Over the last few days I have come to the conclusion that it would be a disservice to my clients and to my family if I were to continue working next year at the pace I am doing this year. I do not have the capacity to split my time equally between my family and my work. After watching my oldest sisters newborn over the course of a week I realized how important those first few months/years are and I do not want to miss out on any of it. It is hard to make such a drastic decision when I don't even know what it is going to be like to have a baby, but being a wedding photographer I need to be proactive and make these decisions early on. We have 3 weddings booked so far for 2010 and will only be taking 8 more local weddings for the 2010 season. So if you are having a wedding in the Oswego/Syracuse area get on the phone ASAP and call us up. This may be just a one season part-time hiatus and you may very well see us out every weekend in 2011, but we will be taking one season at a time.

Vacation

Sorry I have been so bad at blogging lately. I have been busy with work and some good surprises in life and blogging is always the first thing to go when I am busy. I just wanted to let you all know that Isaac and I will be in SC until this Friday 7/10 visiting my sister and her family. She just had a baby 10 days ago and we wanted to come visit before she gets any bigger. I will make all return phone calls and emails when I get back. Have a great week!

Bayshore Album

Late this spring I finally got around to designing a flush-mount album for Bayshore Grove in Oswego. George at Bayshore had the brilliant idea to separate the album into seasons, since Bayshore highly revolves around the outside scenery. I loved the idea of having sections specifically for spring, summer, and fall.

So I already gave George his copy because I was so excited to have him see it, but I ordered 96 mini-copies for me to hand out to prospective clients as well as Bayshore. Here is a photo of what they look like. They're cute 2.5x4" books that are 36 sides

Congrats to Clint & Nicole Pitts (05.31.08), Quame & Molly Patterson (07.04.08), Ryan & Michelle Terpening (08.02.08), and Brandon & Brittany Bean (10.18.08), for being the highlighted weddings in this new album! You guys will be getting a copy in the mail, unfortunately for everyone else the only way to get your hands on this bad boy is to be planning an upcoming wedding!

Chandler's Senior Sesson

Last week Isaac and I photographed our first double senior session. Shane & Chandler are good friends at Oswego High school. They decided they wanted to do their session together, and we happily obliged. It was so fun having two models to work with. The two of them fed off each other as they made faces at each other and tried to "out model" one another. I hope to do more double senior sessions like this in the near future.

Tis the season

Wedding season is in full swing, along with family portraits and senior sessions we are keeping ourselves really busy. Isaac's last day of teaching is the 15th and his last day of going into school is the 26th. I am very excited to have him back in the office for the summer months.
In the past 3 weeks we have shot 4 weddings, 2 senior portraits, moved my office back into my house, went to a 2 day conference (where I got to photograph 2 famous musicians up close and personal), celebrated 4 birthdays and our 4th anniversary. Wow I can't believe I did all that since Memorial Day.

For the next few days I will be sharing photos from all of our photo adventures including all of our past 3 weddings, portraits etc. This year we are really starting to focus more on our senior photography. We started off the senior season (May-Oct.) very strong with a double senior session of Shane & Chandler. These two were a blast to work with as we spent about an hour after school last week. This was our first senior session where we had two friends come together. It was fun to see them laugh at each other and I can tell they had a lot of fun. I think we might start trying to do more senior sessions with a friend or two. I cannot wait to see these photos printed out. Next summer we are planning on shooting more portraits and less weddings.

For the 2010 wedding season we are only going to shoot 10-12 weddings with a max of 1 per weekend and 2 per month. With our free weeks when we do not have weddings we are going to be shooting more senior sessions and family portraits. Woo hoo. I absolutely love weddings and If my body could take having a wedding every Friday and Saturday I would, but after 6 months of working every weekend my body hates me. This is good news for all of your Kain's Photography clients, because as my work load goes down, my quality and time available to answer your questions goes up! That is what full service support is all about... being available to YOU!

Erin & Chris's wedding

Erin & Chris Oldani renewed their vows last Friday, May 22nd, during their dream wedding at Bayshore in Oswego. It was a gorgeous May evening as the guests filtered in for our first Bayshore wedding of the year. Everything was perfect during the day. The staff at Bayshore was exceptional, as well as the food. Chris & Erin were so fun to photograph as I can tell their love for eachother is real. I was extra excited to shoot their wedding because I got to know them well during our engagement session a few weeks back. Sadly enough they are moving to the west coast in a few weeks, so our time with them is cut short! Here is the link to my blog post of their engagement session. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG

Today is the birthday of a very special person to me. One of my best friends and fellow photographers, Meghan Thomas, is turning one year older today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, I couldn't ask for a better friend.
Unfortunately I am not on my main computer right now so the only photo I have of us is when she was helping me out with my makeup when she shot our 3rd anniversary photos last May. Meg is always willing to help out and will go out of her way to make everyone else happy. Little did I know that when Isaac introduced us at a bridal show in Syracuse back in 2006 that I would become friends with this crazy girl. Everyone wish her happy birthday!

A few weeks ago I was driving around at night at decided to stop to watch a lightening storm over the lake. It was very cool! Unfortunately I did not have my tripod on me so these shots are quite blurry, oh well.

This past Friday I had the lovely opportunity to shoot the engagement session of Caroline and Stephen, who are getting married this October at Bayshore. It was great to get to know this fun couple a little bit more before the big day. Enjoy some of my favorites, you two look wonderful!

What a way to start off the 2009 wedding season (we did have a few weddings in the winter, but for some reason we don't count that in the wedding season... sorry winter brides)

Off with a bang we went to Northville, NY for the wedding of Jess & Brent. It was quite a rainy day, but we managed to dodge some rain drops and get some shots outside. While on the edge of the Sacandaga Lake it starting pouring down on us... poor bride, poor cameras. We made it back to out cars before we got too soaked. The reception was held at Eagle Crest Country Club in Clifton Park. What a beautiful golf course. I remember going there when I was little to play putt-putt. Brent & Jess were such a fun loving couple to be around. We were blessed to be a part of their special day.

We had some equipment malfunctions with Isaac's camera... but as always, we bring A LOT of back up equipment. So within 30 seconds Isaac was back in action and taking awesome photos. With that being said we are buying another D700 today for our weddings this weekend. We are very excited to be both shooting with Nikon D700's now, and you should be too! We are just kinda bummed we couldnt wait till the end of June when we were planning on upgrading Isaac's setup.

Ahh tis the season for engagement sessions, senior portraits, and the highly anticipated start of wedding season. This weekend Isaac and I will be in Clifton Park,NY and Northville,NY for the wedding of Jess & Brent. We are hoping the rain holds off long enough to take some awesome shots on the shores of the Great Sacandaga Lake.
We are now booking for 2010, so if you are interested in meeting with us, NOW is the time, before your date is gone. We are doing a limited number of weddings next year as we want to have more time to design albums and work with your images after the wedding. As wedding quantity goes down, service and quality go up. This year is the start of a new Kain's Photography.

Last Saturday Chris & Erin met up with me for a meeting/bfast/e-session combo. It was great fun to be with them for 3 hours as we got to know each other over some diner goodness, and then headed on over to Fort Ontario and then the river to take some photos. Chris & Erin got married a few years ago, but they never got their dream wedding. Chris & Erin have gone through some bumpy roads, but they are an inspiration to Isaac and I that love heals, prevails, and lasts. These two are finally getting their dream wedding in 2 weeks at Bayshore Grove in Oswego,NY. We are so happy to be there with them to document their entire day. Enjoy my favorites!

We're back!

We are now home and I am back to work after almost 2 weeks off. Isaac and I were in Spain for 10 days on a missions trip where we visited a handful of missionaries and used photography and video to document their ministries and lives. Leaving in less than a week

Today is so gorgous out! So if you are in NY you need to get off your computer and go outside... including myself. So I'll make this short. Tomorrow I will be posting photos from my first Quincenera from last weekend. Enjoy!

Isaac and our nephew Andrew on the train to Charlotte. These two are so funny together! I wish we didn't live so far apart

Last week I was bumming so Isaac and I decided to take a day to ourselves and go to Canada. I know it seems so far away. But in about 2 hrs we were in Canada and another 1/2 hr we were in Kingston. We are a crazy couple, but we love to explore and love car rides so why not go to Kingston, Ontario.

We went out to lunch at this restaurant "Olivea" in downtown Kingston. It is this very cute yet modern Italian restaurant. I had the best chocolate mousse ever! MMM. If you haven't checked out Kingston or Gananoque in Ontario yet I highly suggest you take the quick drive for a day trip or an overnight and explore!

Isaac and I have been so busy doing things to our house before things get busy with wedding season. We finished one of our guestrooms the other day. I picked this soothing yellow color. It just makes you want to melt into the bed and stay there for a while. We also finished our library, but at this moment it is holding all of the stuff we took out of another guestroom, so I cannot take any photos.

New Niece and Hannah & Wes E-session

I just found out that I have a brand new baby niece born this morning at 10:55am, weighing 8 lbs 5oz. Her name is Elliott. I Can't wait to see her. Congrats to my sister and brother: Tess & Alan, and of course Michael, who is now a big brother! What a great day :-)

Here are some of my favorite photos from Hannah & Wes's engagement session from last Friday. We met up in the late afternoon, and it was surprisingly cold. My fingers were numb after we finished. Hannah & Wes are getting married on May 16th of this year. I already have a wedding scheduled in Clifton Park, so I will not be shooting their wedding, but my assistant, Leanna Chapman, will be shooting it for me! Enjoy!

Welcome Spring

The sun is shining and it is now officially spring. I just wish it wasn't 30 degrees outside. Brrrrrrr. We leave for Spain in less than 3 weeks and I cannot be any more excited. I have 2 albums left to design for 2008, and a few other little projects to finish up before we leave. It is March Madness time and I am so excited to have duel display on my computer so I can work on my main monitor while watching the games on my secondary monitor.

Last day of Winter

I don't know about you but I am very excited for this upstate NY winter to be ending. There are many reasons I am excited about today being the last day of winter:
1) No more snow, shoveling, snow blowing
2) The flowers will start coming up and the grass will get green
3) Wedding season is approaching
4) Flip flops soon!

I have been busy getting things done. It stinks being in my office when it is so nice outside, but it will only get nicer so I should just keep plugging away and wait for the warmer weather to come. I had such a hard time designing this album because I didn't want to narrow the photos down. If I could make a 60 page album from their wedding I probably would have no problem filling it! Enjoy!

What was in that box anyways?

Last week I put photos of a huge box I received in the mail. It was up to my chin... hUUUUUUUUUGE, as Billy Fuccillo would say. Anyways this what was in the box:

Remember when you went to those parties in college where there were tons of frames on the walls that looked like this... yea me neither. But this was my first sorority composite I did. It is 30"x32" and I am very pleased with how it came out. Huge thanks to Jeff Welsh from Foliotype design house for the great logo reproduction! Check out his brand spankin new website.

This past weekend was quite busy. I haven't had a photo shoot in quite some time, and this Saturday I had 2: An engagement session in the morning and my very first boudoir session. Stay tuned this week to see previews from each session. 2 months from today is my first wedding of the 2009 season. I have big plans to overhaul my website, redo some albums and so on... so I better get started because May 16th is going to come quick!

here are some shots from the Lakeside-Statewide art opening I attended this past Saturday. on our way into the show the sky was lit up so pretty!

This was the piece I got into the show. Over 200 pieces were entered and under 50 were accepted. Unfortunately out of the 10 awards given no photography pieces were awarded. I feel this "art" community doesn't appreciate photography as much as they should! Congrats to everyone who won!

Today I got a HUUUUUUUGE box in the mail that comes up to my chin. I'm thinking... Oh my GOSH I must've ordered the wrong size frame. UPS delivered in the middle of writing my blog and I am so amazed by this box I felt a need to blog it too!

Random Monday:

- We are leaving in exactly 1 month for our short term missions trip to Granada, Spain. Follow our journey as we travel here.

- I know 15 people in my sphere of life that are pregnant right now. That makes almost more pregnant ladies than not in my life! My sister-in-law Tess is due towards the end of March, but the doctor said she can go any day now. I CANNOT WAIT to take photos of the little girl! Congrats to all my friends and the blessing God has given you!

- My mom will be coming back from a month in Mexico, where she lived with a Mexican family to learn Spanish fluently. Hopefully she can teach me before I leave for Spain.

- I have my very first Boudoir photo session this Saturday. It'll be awesome!

- We have many calls for 2010 & 2011 weddings but are waiting to book any until we figure out our schedule for next summer. Oh how I hate having to plan my life 1-2 years in advance... but I love love love wedding photography, so it is a nice trade off

- I finally stopped being lazy and submitted a photograph into the 2009 "Lakeside-Statewide Juried Art Show". I was happy to hear that they selected my photograph "Bones" to be a part of the art show. The opening is this Saturday from 7-9pm at the Oswego Civic Arts Center, in Oswego,NY. Here is the digital copy of the photo. I will make sure to take photos while I am at the opening.

Some of you may remember seeing this photo during my missions trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. On our last day in DR we went to an open air market. I was wondering around the streets taking photos of all the produce, spices, and crafts, when I stumped upon some skulls in the middle of fruit. Oh the things you see in foreign countries!

I am so bad at taking photos when I am a guest at an event. I usually just want to enjoy myself, but I decided to take a few shots at Tess's baby shower this past weekend. This one is of my pastors wife, Wendy Smith, speaking words of encouragement to Tess.

Isaac and I have been busy doing some things to our house. Once wedding season comes we have no time for anything, so we try to get as much work done during the winter and early spring. This past week our task was to redo our upstairs bathoom. I won't even show you what it looked like before, because it is embaressing, but I will show you what Isaac and I came up with.

I found this really awesome waffle/linen shower curtain at Walmart. it reminds me of something you would see in a spa.

The last thing we have to do is tile the bathroom floor. We picked out some pretty sweet 6x6inch tiles that are natural. It's gonna look awesome!

WOW it's been long

GEESH! I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I last posted. I am sorry to all you KP Blog readers out there. Being away for a week has really piled up the work so I have been busy going through the work before I get to do anything "extra". Well here are some photos from Valentines day on our trip down to North Carolina.

This series of shots was taken while we traveled down the scenic highway "SkyLine Drive" in VA.

This is to show you how high up we were. We spent 3 hours on the edge of a mountain. It was amazing!

We saw 15 deer and a bobcat! Isaac was so excited to see the bobcat, I told him why doesn't he go out of the car to go take close ups... he said the bobcat could attack and hurt him. So we opted to keep driving.

The obligatory, "Hey look I'm taking a photo of myself in a mirror" shot.

Isaac drove the whole way, which was probably good because I would have been too concerned with nice photo opps instead of driving.

Okay now incase you haven't noticed already this is NOT from Skyline Drive. Yesterday I took photographs for some of the spring teams at SUNY Oswego. While I was setting up I took this shot of the Women's LAX team hanging out. I thought it was a funny photo because no one knew I was taking it.

I am bad at blogging lately. There has been so much going on with the Kain's... Too much to tell in just one short blog. One very exciting thing is that we will be going on a short term missions trip to Spain from April 9th-18th. I cannot wait to see how Easter is done in Spain
We are going through the Christian & Missionary Alliance and will be staying in Granada & Madrid. On a similar note if anyone owns the Rosetta Stone for Spanish could we borrow it for 2 months or buy it off of you?

Bridal show this Sunday!

Sunday 1/18 from 11am-3pm

I sit in my office every day with the blinds down and my back to the windows. Sunlight is an enemy of mine while I am on the computer. So I sit in my office/cave and work in the dark. But today I decided to lift the blinds and watch the snow as it fluttered down from the sky. We have gotten about 4 inches of snow this afternoon so far, and as I sit here bundled up at my desk, I cannot stop thinking about when I was a little kid, sledding in my backyard for hours upon hours. I would always get so wet and cold, but I loved the snow.

I usually dread Monday's, but today has been quite fun. Last week I finished editing my last 2008 wedding, so now I have some new found time to continue working on albums and other things. I finished changes on 2 more albums today and I will continue to work full steam ahead on my 8/16 & 8/30 albums. I have a huge shoot that will take up all day tomorrow and Wednesday. It is something different than I have ever done before so keep and eye out for sneak peeks on facebook or my blog. Isaac and I have John & Kelly's wedding to shoot this Saturday as well. It is the last wedding for a few months. I always love this little "break" in work that comes about the middle of March to the beginning of May. I am trying to plan a trip to Spain and also some personal photo projects! Here are some random photos from the last week:

Isaac & I in front of our awesome booth at the Oswego bridal show last Sunday. We didn't have too much space so we tried to squeeze as much stuff into our space without it getting too full, what do you think?

This is a once in a lifetime sneak peak at my office this morning as the sun shined through my windows and onto my desk. The color of the room has been bright blue since we bought the house. I was going to change it right away, but I realized having a colorful office keeps my "creative juices" flowing. I may not have the neatest office, but it is quite fun! The poster on the left is from when I worked as a graphic designer for Fajita Grill. If the printer would mess up one of my pieces, I would have them reprint it and then keep the "mess up" for myself.

View out my front door at about 1pm today. It had just stopped snowing and the sun decided to show its face for a few minutes.

The sun was so warm as it made its way through one of my favorite windows in the house and onto our table in the entryway. Note to everyone... including myself, it is NOT good to have photographs in the sun. So I guess I should find a new place for this table before the photo gets ruined. The sun bleaches the ink, so in a very short time your photo will become very dull and the colors will change.

This photo is bittersweet for me. As some of you may know, my husband Isaac is in the Army. He has been in the Army since I have know him, it has defined who he is today as an adult. I always get so sad when he has to go away for training. But on the flip side I always LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing him come home in his uniform. He is so cute! It is one of my most favorite things in life, watching him walk through our back door with a huge smile on his face and his ACU's on. So the bittersweet part of it all is that this past weekend was his LAST Army drill. He officially gets out of the Army on Jan. 24th, 8 long years after he signed his initial contract. Although I love saying my husband is a soldier, and I am extremely proud of him. I am very excited that we can move onto the next stage of our life. No longer planning weddings around when Isaac will be with the Army, nor waiting to see if he will be deployed. I am happy he will be here with me, but sad that this part of our life is over. And he just got promoted to a Staff Sergeant.

Onto the next part of our life... that is why we are planning a trip to Spain! As the Spring gets closer and I have more information about our new "projects" in life I will share with you all tidbits of our life.

Vacation

Isaac and I are still on vacation until our bridal show THIS SUNDAY! Come visit us from 12-3pm at the American Foundry in Oswego, NY. Oswego's best vendors will be on hand to chat about your upcoming wedding. Come hang out with us in our lounge and see the newest albums and products we have to offer.

Happenings...

Bridal show season is coming up!!! We will be attending shows in central NY and Saratoga Springs. Call for dates and times.

I do not like talking about myself... but Isaac told me I NEEDED to share this with you. I made the cover of the Oswego County Business Magazine for being selected as one of Oswego County's forty under 40. Forty Under 40 showcases the next generation of leaders in Oswego County. Winners are chosen based on such values as: achievement, experience and innovation, vision, leadership, and community involvement. I feel very honored and humbled by this recognition and I hope to continue to live up to it. Thank you! Also in case you have never met me before I am in the green on the bottom left of the page. 8 AM photo shoots create bad hair days!

In addition to that I have been super busy creating albums, getting print orders finished, and having many photo shoots. We are now at the point that it is too late to order prints/albums for Christmas, so I am just trying to finish things up before we Go away on Wed 12/24. We will be away until Jan. 2nd.

The Owner of Maida's in Oswego called us up last week to photograph her son and daughter. It was a joy working with Debbie and her wonderful family.

A few weeks ago I had a huge change of pace and set out to photograph an entire sorority in Oswego. All the girls from Alpha Delta Eta were fun to work with and we had a great shoot. I can't wait to see how the large composite turns out.

I photographed my nephew Michael for his 4th Birthday. He is such a ham! Love him and his cute mop hair.

One of my most fun shots of the year. I got to photograph a senior session at the Campus Center on SUNY Oswego's campus. Sam was great to work with as I took her on the ice with skates, into the stands, onto the bench, and around the building. I know I would have LOVED to have my senior session like this.

Last but not least we got the great priviledge to photograph our old neighbors from Mitchell Street. They just had a baby this fall and it was so great to meet her and see Andrew & Yvette again. What a cutie Pie.

The Dudley's

This past Monday I had such a great time photographing The Dudley's. These two kids were such great models for me! They are both ice hockey players so we had a lot to talk about! Can you believe I took these photos in their living room! Although I really love taking photos outside with natural lighting and with little posing, it is winter in NY and I must be realistic. These are a great example of the kinds of photos I can take in the winter... inside... where it is warm and NOT snowing. ENJOY!

Jeff & Meg's Wedding

This past Saturday I had a chance to photograph Jeff & Meg's wonderful wedding in Baldwsinville, NY. Jeff is the brother of our crazy last minute bride on August 30th Kim. It was so great to see Kim and her husband Josh at Jeff & Meg's wedding. The lovely Meghan Thomas second shot for me as Isaac was busy getting promoted with the ARMY. (He is now a Staff-Sargent, so congratulate him next time you see him)
I met up with the girls at the Hampton Suites in Clay, which by the way are gorgeous, while Meghan met up with the guys at their house. The was an Irish theme for the wedding, which was great, especially because Isaac's family is very-Irish and they love their heritage. The rest of the photos will be up in a few weeks. The goal is to get them up before Christmas.
Just to let you all know we are taking Tuesday Dec. 23rd- Sunday January 4th off for Christmas break. We don't get many breaks so we make sure to take an extra long break this time of year.

I played around with converse's shoe personalization. I came up with a pair. You can put up to twelve characters on the sides of the shoes. I hope to see a bride and groom in 2009 with a pair with their names or bride/groom written on them :-) If you both have a pair I will throw in a little surprise.

SUNY Oswego Wrestling

As I have mentioned before, we are the photographers for SUNY Oswego's athletic department, which means we get to photograph a game/meet of each team. A few weeks ago I got to attend my first wrestling match. I was clueless until I ran into one of our 2009 grooms who was in attendance. Kurt explained a quick rundown of the rules and scoring. I still do not know much about wrestling, but at least now I know it is not good to be on your stomach, and even worse to be on your back. So thanks for the help Kurt! Sorry I have not been posting lately. Tis the season to be working 10 hr days and doing 1-2 portraits per day. SUNY Oswego Woman's Ice Hockey

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It's funny how some people want Thanksgiving to be over so they can look forward to shopping the following day. Oh the marketing in holidays.
Next stop: Oswego woman's ice hockey. This team holds a special place in my heart. Many of you may not know that I played ice hockey since I was in 5th grade. I played all the way through college at Oswego, where my good friend Catherine and I started a woman's team on campus before there was ever a NCAA team. By the time the school FINALLY got a NCAA team I had already graduated. I had pondered going back to grad school just so I could play on the team, but then I realized that would be stupid! So here I am... an avid fan, no longer a player. I wish I could find a woman's league to play on. Enjoy the photos!

SUNY Oswego Women's Basketball

To continue our winter sports tour I present photos from the Oswego woman's basketball team. This was my first basketball game ever shot so it was quite a learning experience. I was an expert by the end :-) We will be hanging out with my family in Saratoga until Friday morning and then we will be in Oswego over the weekend with Isaac's family. Emily & Jason: Married at last

Emily & Jason met while both in the military. They were often apart in person, but together in heart. It was such a joy to be a part of their wedding this past Saturday. To see them together at last is truly a joyous sight. Both smiled from ear to ear all day. Currently Emily & Jason live in Japan, while Jason fulfills his station with the Marines. They get the award for the farthest distance traveled to be at a wedding... their wedding nonetheless.
The ceremony and reception were both held at The Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles,NY. What a beautiful place to have a wedding. Hand carved wood details, cozy furniture, gorgeous lighting, and a crackling fire were what greeted us as we walked through the doors of The Sherwood. The staff was so wonderful to work with. They made our job so easy because everything was so beautiful and all the guests were so well taken care of. The chef at The Sherwood was so kind to show me all the food on the menu, he really has a gift for creating exquisite food. The Patisserie supplied the yummy cake and pastries. The flowers were done by P&C, and they couldn't have been more perfect.
It was a very cold November afternoon with a blizzard one minute and then sun the next. The ground was covered with pillows of white fluffy snow. It was so pretty that I couldn't believe we are in the month of November. Emily & Jason braved the cold weather for 20 minutes as we went outside to take some photos of the two of them. It was so much fun running around the snow on the edges of the Lake in the snow. When a bride and groom see each other before the ceremony it gives us this opportunity to take some amazing photos without time restrictions. The light was perfect and it wasn't snowing too bad, so Emily & Jason decided to see each other before the ceremony. I highly recommend doing this... that way you can be a part of your cocktail hour! Thanks for being such great models! It was so great to be a part of your day. Thank you for trusting us to capture everything. The rest of the photos will be online in a few weeks. It was a long day and the weather was not the greatest so Isaac and I decided to stay at the Sherwood last minute. We didn't have any change of clothes or toiletries but we decided to be spontaneous and stay anyways. It was so nice to be away for a night... and to not have to drive home after working 8 hrs. We stayed in Rm #18 of the Sherwood. It was a very reasonable rate with a gas fireplace, a flat panel TV, gorgeous hand panted murals, and a luxurious bathroom complete with a whirlpool tub. We were the first guests ever to stay in this room as they just finished converting it from an office into a room the day before the wedding. We highly recommend the Sherwood for any special occasion, or even just a spontaneous night away! Here are some photos of our room:
